Beach Volleyball & Outdoor Sport Calorie Estimator
Estimate the calories burned in a beach sport session from your sport, session length and body weight, using a stated MET table.
Your inputs
How it works
This estimator uses the standard MET formula: calories = MET × body weight in kilograms × duration in hours. A MET is a multiple of resting energy use, so a higher MET means a more intense activity. The table below is the one this tool uses for every calculation, so you can check any result by hand.
| Sport | MET value used |
|---|---|
| Beach volleyball | 8.0 |
| Beach soccer | 9.0 |
| Surfing | 5.0 |
| Paddleboarding | 5.0 |
| Beach tennis | 7.0 |
| Frisbee | 4.5 |
| Beach running | 9.5 |
These are mid-range planning values for a typical recreational game or session, not measurements for a competitive match. Beach volleyball and beach soccer score highest because they combine jumping, sprinting and constant movement on an unstable surface; a casual frisbee throw scores lowest because much of the time is spent standing or walking. Surfing and paddleboarding sit in the middle: the effort comes in bursts, with quieter waiting time between waves or strokes.
How to use your result
Use the figure to compare sessions and to plan how long to play, rather than as an exact energy balance. If you play twice as long, the estimate doubles; if you play much harder than a casual game, the true figure will be higher. Pair the estimate with water breaks and shade, and stop if you feel dizzy, nauseous or unusually tired in the heat.
